Review: Huawei P40 Lite E 6.39-inch Unlocked

The Huawei P40 lite E is different from the other Huawei smartphones in the P-series. It came off as a surprise at first, so we decided to do a bit of research. It turns out that this phone has nothing in common with Huawei P40 lite or the older models because its real name is Huawei Y7p. That cleared things up!

Now that we’re no longer confused about the whole situation, let’s see if Huawei P40 lite E (also known as Huawei Y7p) is worth buying or not.

The price of this phone is firmly in the bottom tier as Huawei’s main goal here is to capture the attention of the super-budget customers. But that doesn’t mean that price is the only thing attractive here. This phone shouldn’t be taken lightly as its features are nothing to frown at. Customers are unlikely to be left unsatisfied with the P40 lite E. Read our review to find out why.

Design

At first glance, the design of Huawei P40 lite E might not seem all that much but you’ll soon start appreciating its simplicity.

It has a small eye-like front camera on the top-left side and the phone pulls the design off. The main cameras, which look like they mean business, are of course on the back

This phone is entirely made up of plastic, except for the front glass. It has a standard matte finish that makes it look similar to metal. But there is no coolness to it since after all it's all plastic.

Overall, the phone is assembled to perfection. Its case is strong, sturdy, and doesn’t squeak or bend. Plus, it feels perfect in the hand.

Screen

The Huawei P40 lite E has a 6.39-inches IPS screen with a 720 x 1560 pixels resolution.

If we take the cost into consideration, the screen is pretty decent in terms of brightness and viewing angles. The colour reproduction is good as well.
The phone comes with all of the standard Huawei smartphone features like colour temperature, hiding the upper area hole, night mode, etc.

Performance
We have the Kirin 710F chip here, which is what most mid-range Huawei and Honor phones have as well. However, many of those phones were 1.5 times more expensive than P40 lite E. This should indicate what the strongest feature of this phone is.

Long story short, the Kirin 710F delivers a satisfactory performance for the user. It can even smoothly run modern games!
The true surprise for us was the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, which you don’t often see on such inexpensive phones. In our opinion, these specifications should be minimum if you want a fast, modern smartphone.
Also, we’d also like to point out that the Huawei P40 lite E supports SD cards, not the costly Nano Memory. The slots are separated so you don’t have to worry about sacrificing a second SIM card.

Camera
The Huawei P40 lite E and P30 Lite have the same modules. This means we get awesome camera modules on a budget phone.
And we must admit that the 48-MP camera has impressed us quite a lot as it shoots pretty well, this is especially the case in either good or bad light. Its AI software is programmed to deliver a photo in any situation.
However, you shouldn’t expect any high-resolution photos here because the camera can only produce 12 MP or 4000 x 3000 pixels pics. It's the 4 physical pixels that are doing a lot of work and producing more information and light, prioritizing quality not size.
Its selfie camera, 8 MP, is also pretty decent and can shoot videos in 1080p/30fps.
The main camera shoots good quality video, when compared to other phones in its price range. The video clips are in FHD/60fps.

Battery Life
The industry has made the 4000 mAh battery as the standard for smartphones at this point. However, the battery actually gets a boost from the energy-saving chip, low-resolution screen, and absent Google services. You can easily go through the day with moderate use and even push it to two days if necessary.
Every flower has a thorn and in this case, that thorn is no fast charging. There’s only the normal 10 W block that charges your phone in about 2 hours.

Software
Here we have the EMUI 9, which can be upgraded to the 10th version.

Don’t worry about no Google services because the beauty of smartphones is that most of the time, there’s always a workaround. Stores like APKPure will be your best friend while using a Huawei device these days.

Verdict
The Huawei P40 lite E is one of the best smartphones in its price range. It's got an elegant design, a good screen, and awesome cameras. The battery life is also great and keeps pace with the phone’s other components.
But at the end of the day, it's all about that relatively low price. Of course, the decent-to-good features don’t hurt. In an economic crisis, value for money is the only thing that’ll move the people’s wallet.
